President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn the presidential pardon earlier granted to Maryam Sanda, who was sentenced to death in 2020 for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.
The decision, announced on Wednesday through an official gazette signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, followed widespread public criticism over her inclusion in the list of pardoned convicts.
According to the gazette, President Tinubu approved a revised sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment for Sanda on compassionate grounds.
The document noted that she had already served six years and eight months at the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre, leaving roughly six years to complete her new term.
Further details on the development are expected to be released later.
