Two suspected motorcycle thieves have been arrested by operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command while attempting to sell a stolen motorcycle in Darazo town, Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said the suspects — identified as 25-year-old Nura Yau and 25-year-old Bayero Isah, both residents of Akuyam village in Misau Local Government Area — were apprehended following an intelligence tip-off from a vigilant resident.
According to Wakil, the informant had reported to the police that two men riding a Bajaj motorcycle were moving suspiciously around the area, inquiring about motorcycle dealers.
“Acting on the report, detectives immediately swung into action, trailed the suspects, and arrested them.
During interrogation, they confessed to stealing motorcycles from various locations, including Akuyam village on September 30, 2025, and the Juma’at Mosque in Darazo town,” he said.
Wakil added that investigation confirmed one Auwal Adamu, 50, as the rightful owner of the stolen motorcycle recovered in Darazo.
He further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation and prosecution.
The spokesman quoted the Commissioner as urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property while warning criminal elements that Bauchi State will remain unsafe for their operations,” Wakil said.
