The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo Zonal Command, has launched an investigation into two men, identified as Moses Michael Mufans and Abba Sunday, who were arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal oil dealings in Akwa Ibom State.

The suspects were apprehended on November 4, 2025, by a combined security team of the Joint Task Force and operatives of the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Mbiokporo, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

They were reportedly caught while loading products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) from an underground dump at Olive Field Filling Station, Ikot Ekpene, into a white Iveco truck with registration number SMK 185 XB.

Investigators said about 19,400 litres of the suspected product were discovered at the scene, stored in underground tanks.

The suspects were subsequently handed over to the EFCC on November 7, along with the seized items.

Among the exhibits transferred to the anti-graft agency were the Iveco truck containing about 3,287 litres of suspected illegally refined diesel, the underground storage facility, two Yamaha pumping machines, four suction hoses, a Mercedes Benz ML 350 (registration number KRF 287 EP), and a DAF 75 CF truck (registration number GGE 193 XG).

Colonel J. K. Adisa handed over the suspects and the exhibits on behalf of the Commander, 2 Brigade, Brigadier General N. E. Okoloagu, while Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Taiwo Adetona Habeeb, received them on behalf of the Zonal Director, Assistant Commander Oshodi Johnson.

Speaking during the handover, Johnson commended the Nigerian Army for its collaboration and assured that the EFCC would conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

“We appreciate the synergy with the Nigerian Army.

The Commission will ensure diligent investigation and prosecution of the suspects,” Johnson said.

The development underscores the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal oil activities and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region.
