The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly robbing a commercial tricyclist of his vehicle, PUNCH Metro has learnt.

The suspects, identified as Yahaya Atta and Masud Abubakar of the Diplomat Area and Mustapha Mohammed of the Emir Yahaya Area, were said to have conspired to dispossess the rider, Usman Babangida, of his tricycle.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the incident occurred on October 13, 2025, around 9 p.m. when the suspects stopped the victim at the Diploma Area and posed as passengers heading to the Dambowa roundabout.

Midway into the trip, the trio allegedly attacked Babangida, tied him with a rope, pushed him out of the moving tricycle and sped away with the vehicle.

The victim, the police said, immediately reported the attack at the Dadin Kowa Police Station, prompting detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti Fraud Unit to launch a manhunt.

Rufai explained that the suspects were eventually tracked to the Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where they were attempting to sell the stolen tricycle.

The vehicle was recovered, and the three men were subsequently arraigned.

Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police restated the command’s determination to combat crime and protect residents.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to support police efforts.
