The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver judgment in the alleged terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu today, with the ruling scheduled to be broadcast live.
The court registrar confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday morning.
Journalists and cameramen from major television networks, including NTA, Channels TV, AIT, and TVC, were present in the courtroom with equipment ready for live transmission.
Justice James Omotosho had fixed November 20 for the judgment after foreclosing Kanu’s defence.
The decision followed Kanu’s refusal to enter his defence under a law he claimed had been repealed.
The judge noted that Kanu had exhausted the six days granted by the court to present his defence and had, therefore, waived his right to do so.
Justice Omotosho added that he would have granted an extension had Kanu chosen to proceed with his defence.
He further ruled that Kanu, having declined to utilise the opportunity to present his case, could not claim denial of his constitutionally guaranteed right to a fair hearing.
