Armed attack forces stop of church crusade in Nasarawa community

A church crusade in Agboda community, Mararaba Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area, was abruptly disrupted on Monday evening when unidentified armed men launched an attack, leaving one participant injured.

The programme organiser, Dr Daniel Ukpo, told newsmen the incident occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. as worshippers gathered for the event.

“A young man riding a motorcycle was ambushed and inflicted with a machete cut, and his bike was taken.

“Once participants heard about the attack, people started running in different directions,” Ukpo said.

He added that the crusade was immediately suspended due to the growing tension in the area.

Ukpo described the incident as part of a disturbing trend of insecurity in the Mararaba Udege axis, noting that residents of nearby communities have repeatedly complained about assaults, destruction of farms, and inadequate security.

“People are being attacked on the roads and even on their farms. Many of these cases never get reported.

“The security presence here is very weak,” he said, urging both state and federal authorities to intervene.

He further noted that religious activities in the area have previously been disrupted by suspected armed herders, leaving residents feeling “defenseless and abandoned.”

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued any official statement on the attack.
