Police fault claims in old Ali Kwara arrest clip

The Kano State Police Command has dismissed a circulating video suggesting the recent arrest of a notorious kidnapping suspect, insisting the footage is an old clip resurfacing online.

The Command clarified that the video, now trending across social media platforms, predates current security operations and was originally recorded five years ago at the Bompai Police Headquarters.

This is contained in a statement signed by the command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Wednesday night.

Police authorities explained that the clip captured an interview session granted to journalists, led by the late Abubakar Dahiru Yakasai, alongside the then Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, now retired CP Balarabe Sule.

The suspect, Ali Kwara, was actually arrested in 2019 at Diga, Panshekara Quarters, for a series of kidnappings and armed robberies.

Investigators said he “voluntarily confessed” during questioning, and the video was used to brief the public on efforts to fight crime at the time.

The Command urged residents to disregard the revived footage, warning against circulating outdated materials that could trigger needless tension within the state.

It also encouraged residents to always verify information and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori thanked the public for their continued cooperation, saying their support helps in “maintaining peace and security across the State.”
