The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted a planned bandit attack along a major route in the state, recovering two AK-47 rifles and several rounds of ammunition in the process.
The operation was carried out following actionable intelligence that armed bandits were plotting to blockade the road and attack commuters.
The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the operation followed intelligence that armed bandits were planning to blockade the route.
He said the swift mobilisation of the Divisional Police Officer and his team led to a confrontation that forced the criminals to flee, abandoning their weapons.
According to him, the successful operation was part of the command’s renewed tactical deployment strategy and the Inspector-General of Police’s directive to strengthen security nationwide.
“The operatives intercepted the suspects, engaged them and repelled the attack through superior tactics and firepower,” the statement added.
Sadiq said investigations were ongoing to trace and apprehend the fleeing bandits.
Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu hailed the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, noting that such swift action reflects the command’s enhanced counter-banditry efforts.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
