Armed bandits on Sunday stormed a church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, whisking away a pastor, his wife and several congregants.
The attackers reportedly struck during a service at a newly established Cherubim and Seraphim Church, according to a community-based news platform.
Worshippers were said to have fled in different directions as the gunmen advanced, but the church leader, popularly called Orlando, his wife and others were captured in the raid.
The incident threw the community into panic, further stoking concerns over recurring insecurity in parts of Kogi.
The latest attack came barely 24 hours after another armed gang struck along the Isanlu Makutu–Idofin route in neighbouring Yagba East Local Government Area, forcing residents and travellers to scamper for safety.
Witnesses said the Saturday afternoon assault caused widespread fear across the axis.
Authorities and locals said the exact number of abducted victims from Sunday’s invasion has yet to be verified as information continues to unfold.
The rising wave of assaults has left surrounding communities on edge, with many residents staying indoors while commuters now avoid the troubled corridor.
