The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in separate operations across Taura and Maigatari Local Government Areas as part of its ongoing crackdown on vandalism and cattle rustling.

The Command said its operatives in Taura Division apprehended a 27-year-old man, Adamu Yahaya of Kwalam town, for allegedly sabotaging public power infrastructure. The arrest was made on 30/11/2025 at about 12:30 p.m.

Police said he was caught with “three (3) sacks containing electric wire” which he reportedly removed from government power facilities.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the Command said preliminary investigation revealed he “had conspired with his accomplices to tamper with government property, thereby sabotaging the community electricity supply.”

The recovered exhibits have been secured as detectives intensify efforts to track down other accomplices.

The suspect, according to the Command, will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

In a separate operation earlier that day, Maigatari Division officers arrested a suspected cattle rustler in Matoya village at about 10:30 a.m.

Police identified the suspect as “one Muhammad Abdullahi ‘m’ age 21yrs of Maidaga village, Dungas District, Niger Republic.” He was reportedly intercepted while moving eight cows believed to have been stolen.

The livestock has been recovered and placed in police custody pending identification by their rightful owners.

The suspect is undergoing interrogation while efforts are underway to arrest his fleeing accomplice.

The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their diligence and appreciated residents for providing timely intelligence.

He reiterated the Command’s resolve to clamp down on criminal activities across the state.

The statement assured citizens that the Command remains committed to sustaining peace, security, and law-enforcement operations throughout Jigawa.
