Six real estate marketers abducted during land inspection in Ogun

Six Lagos-based real estate marketers have been abducted in Ogun State while on an inspection visit to their company’s property in Oyebola village, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

The victims were said to have travelled to the site on Friday to assess the land when they were seized by unidentified gunmen. DAILY POST learnt that the team was carried off during what was expected to be a routine verification exercise.

Confirming the incident on Sunday night, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, said the Command was notified shortly after the abduction and had since launched a full-scale investigation.

He said, “So, they brought some marketers from Lagos to come and see the land so that they can have the requisite information to market the land for the members of the public who are interested.

“It was during their visit to this land that the six people were abducted. The command had been on it since, and we shall definitely ensure that these people regain their freedom.”

Ogunlowo assured residents that security agencies were working round the clock to secure the release of the kidnapped marketers and restore calm in the area.

The development comes amid renewed calls by Southern governors for the establishment of state police to stem the worsening insecurity across the country.

At a recent meeting in Iperu-Remo, the forum’s chairman and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, maintained that the creation of state policing structures remained “non-negotiable” for effective grassroots security.

DAILY POST reports that the demand followed a recent surge in nationwide kidnappings targeting schools, churches, and travellers.

Last week, over 300 students were abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State, while 25 girls were taken from a school in Kebbi State.

Churches have also come under attack, with 38 worshippers kidnapped from a congregation in Kwara State.
