The Oyo State Fire Service has confirmed the recovery of the body of a 65-year-old man who fell into a deep well at Oke-Oga Atipe in the Idi-Aga area of Ibadan.
The confirmation was contained in a statement released on Thursday by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the agency, Moroof Akinwande.
Akinwande explained that the emergency call came in at 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from a resident identified as Mr Damola.
He said, “Our officers, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Bamidele Samsudeen, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, they discovered that a man, approximately 65 years old, had fallen into the well. His body was later recovered and handed over to a team of policemen led by SP Idowu from the Agugu Police Division.”
He described the incident as a sad one and called on residents to take extra precautions around open wells and other hazardous areas.
Akinwande also urged the public to pay closer attention to mental health concerns and to seek support when overwhelmed, adding that fire safety tools such as extinguishers should be available in homes and public places during the dry season.
A similar tragedy occurred in November when emergency personnel retrieved the remains of a 45-year-old man from a well in the Odo-Ogbo, Oja-Agbe community of Iseyin.
