A young man was killed in the early hours of Monday inside a mosque in the Hotoro Maraba area of Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, sparking panic and tension in the community.
The victim, identified as Malam Kasim, was said to be calling the Adhan for the Asuba (dawn) prayer when an unidentified assailant allegedly attacked him and slit his throat inside the mosque.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred within the mosque premises, leaving worshippers and residents in shock.
In the aftermath, angry youths in the area reportedly launched a reprisal attack, leading to the death of the suspected assailant at the scene.
One of the victim’s daughters, Maryam Kasim, confirmed the killing, saying the family discovered her father’s lifeless body inside the mosque with signs of violence around the area.
“We discovered our father’s body in the mosque. There were clear signs of a struggle, and the entire community was thrown into fear,” she said.
Security operatives were promptly deployed to the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order, as residents gathered in anger and disbelief over the incident.
As at the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Kano State Police Command.
However, security authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
