The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has arrested 16 motorists for overspeeding along the Sagamu–Abeokuta Expressway.

The arrests were made on Tuesday during a special intervention patrol led by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, with the Head of Operations in attendance.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, said the operation formed part of efforts to meet the FRSC’s 2025 Corporate Strategic Goal, which seeks a 10 per cent reduction in road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries.

Odunsi-Oyewole identified overspeeding as a major cause of road crashes in the state, noting that a laser radar gun was deployed to detect offenders and ensure compliance with the installation of speed-limiting devices.

He said: “The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, led the special intervention patrol along Sagamu–Abeokuta road and was accompanied by the Head of Operations.

“The laser radar gun was used to apprehend drivers for overspeeding offences and also ensured that speed-limiting devices were fixed in the offenders’ vehicles. Sixteen offenders were booked for overspeeding violations.”

The Sector Commander warned the apprehended drivers against overspeeding and overloading, stressing that such practices endanger lives and property.

He assured road users that the special intervention patrol would be sustained throughout the yuletide season, reaffirming the command’s resolve to ensure a safer motoring environment across the state.
