A 45-year-old man, Ali Muhammed, has been dragged before a Magistrate’s Court in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, over allegations that he swindled the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, of ₦39.5 million under false pretences.

The defendant was arraigned on Tuesday by the Oyo State Police Command on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation, conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the charge, Muhammed allegedly impersonated a Comptroller of the Nigerian Customs Service and claimed he could facilitate the sale of auctioned vehicles and bags of rice to the monarch.

The prosecution said the alleged offences were committed between October 12 and October 19, 2025, at the Oja-Igbo area of Ogbomoso.

It was further stated that the acts contravened Sections 484, 516 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

Muhammed pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The presiding magistrate admitted him to bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties who must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case till January 28, 2026, for hearing.
