In a move aimed at giving workers ample time to return to their various duty posts after the New Year holiday and ensuring a smooth and orderly resumption of official activities, the Ondo State Government has declared Friday, 2nd of January, 2025, a work-free day for civil servants across the state.

The Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip made this known while addressing the newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.

According to him, the development is a cheering relief for workers, noting that official work will now resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.

He added that the day will also feature the state’s customary first workday prayer meeting, urging public servants and the general public to take note of the revised resumption date.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro announced the appointment of Owei Kekemeke as the pioneer Amananawei of Ese Odo Local Government Area.

He added that the government is prepared to fill all vacant stools once communities were ready to begin the selection process.

Takuro also confirmed that warrant chiefs had been approved for the appointment of a new Alade Okun of Alade in Idanre, enabling the community to install a new king without delay.

Speaking on infrastructure, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye noted that projects such as the 24km Aboto/Atijere road and a 1km Ese Odo–Sabomi road had already been approved.

He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his commitment to the state’s progress.
