Tragedy struck on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, as a section of a private rice mill operated by NIA-AGRIC collapsed, leaving one worker dead and five others trapped beneath the wreckage.
The incident occurred at the facility’s premises, where parts of the building reportedly caved in, pinning workers under twisted metal and debris.
Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, visited the scene later in the day to assess the situation and monitor ongoing rescue efforts.
He led a high-powered government delegation on an on-the-spot inspection of the affected facility.
Tafida said the visit was aimed at determining the extent of the damage and ensuring that emergency responders were fully mobilised to rescue those still trapped.
Rescue operations are being carried out by a combined team of the Kebbi State Fire Service and other emergency response agencies, who have continued efforts to reach the victims.
Although the cause of the collapse has yet to be determined, the deputy governor assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted once rescue operations are concluded.
He pledged the state government’s continued support for the rescue mission, stressing that efforts would not stop until all the trapped workers are recovered.
