The Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District, Godiya Akwashiki, is dead.

He was 52.
Akwashiki reportedly died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at a hospital in India after a prolonged illness.

A family source, who confirmed the development on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon, described his death as a huge loss to the senatorial district and the state, noting his strong commitment to constituency development and empowerment initiatives.

The source said Akwashiki left behind a legacy of purposeful leadership, adding that his tenure stood out in the political history of Nasarawa North.

He was credited with attracting projects across communities in the zone and was noted for being the only senator from the district to secure a second term in office.

Before his election into the Senate in 2019, Akwashiki had a long legislative career in Nasarawa State, where he served as Majority Leader and later as Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.

Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the late lawmaker was regarded as a seasoned politician and grassroots mobiliser.

Details of burial arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
