X has reportedly acknowledged lapses in its content moderation processes and pledged full compliance with Indian laws following a directive from the country’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Government insiders who spoke with news agency ANI said X has taken down about 3,500 posts and disabled more than 600 accounts as part of measures to curb offensive and unlawful material.

The company is also said to have assured authorities that explicit or obscene content will no longer be allowed to circulate unchecked on the platform.

The latest actions were triggered by MeitY’s order instructing X to remove vulgar, illegal and obscene material, including content suspected to have been generated through the platform’s AI chatbot, Grok.

According to The Economic Times, X has notified officials that it is rolling out tougher safety protocols around Grok, with enhanced image-generation filters and other technological safeguards aimed at preventing misuse of user images.

Sources added that MeitY is reviewing X’s formal response, which details measures already implemented and additional steps planned to curb the spread of inappropriate content and ensure compliance.
