The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule has reaffirmed Nyesom Wike as the dominant political force in Rivers State despite fresh tensions rocking the states political space.
As reported by Arise TV, Amaewhule who spoke during the former governors thank you tour to Obio Akpor Local Government Area on Sunday recalled how lawmakers rallied behind Wike to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 general elections.
“The real people of Nigeria know your worth and that you are helping Mr President deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“That is why the people of Obio Akpor are here to reassure Mr President that you remain the political leader of Rivers State,” the Speaker declared.
He said the Assembly had activated structures across polling units wards and councils in readiness for 2027 boasting that lawmakers will surpass the efforts deployed in 2023.
Also addressing the gathering Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda described Obio Akpor as Wikes impregnable stronghold insisting that no political rivalry could diminish the ministers influence.
“This is your home and nobody can threaten you in Rivers State,” Chinda maintained while appreciating Tinubu for bringing Wike into the Federal Executive Council.
Responding Wike dismissed speculations that his appointment as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory was tied to a private agreement with the President.
“We never signed any agreement with the President.
“All he said was that if we supported him we would not regret it,” he stated.
The former governor asserted that he was unapologetically a politician arguing that power is earned through deliberate structures and grassroots mobilisation.
“I said I want to be a politician and I am a politician. Power is not a free gift you work for it,” he said.
Wike also claimed that political momentum in Rivers State has traditionally hinged on Obio Akpors turnout adding that the 2027 contest was already leaning decisively in Tinubus favour.
According to him major political blocs in the state were now openly aligning with the President eliminating doubts over loyalty heading into the next election cycle.
