The Kano State Police Command says it has intercepted consignments of suspected explosive components and drugs in two separate intelligence-driven operations across the state, leading to the arrest of a prime suspect.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the breakthroughs on Thursday in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

Kiyawa explained that the clampdowns were executed in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to tighten intelligence gathering and strengthen proactive policing nationwide.

According to the statement, officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Division raided a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area, on January 13, following credible intelligence.

Two sacks containing suspected illicit items were recovered at the scene.

Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal—Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Unit later examined the items and reportedly discovered six rolls of detonating cords, alongside 20 parcels of dried leaves believed to be cannabis and 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets.

In a separate sting, operatives of the Anti-Daba Unit on surveillance patrol at Sani Mainagge in Gwale Local Government Area intercepted a tricycle loaded with three heavy bags.

Further inspection by EOD-CBRN personnel revealed the bags contained 3,700 pieces of electric detonators.
The tricycle rider was said to have led investigators to the arrest of one Ibrahim Garba, popularly known as Manyan Baki, aged 49, who hails from Zamfara State.

Garba reportedly admitted involvement in ferrying the items from Nasarawa State to unknown destinations.

Commissioner Bakori commended the officers involved for professionalism and renewed commitment to crime prevention, urging residents to remain security conscious.

He appealed to the public to report suspicious activities promptly, warning against touching unknown objects and advising residents to alert the police from a safe distance.

The police added that investigations into both seizures are ongoing.
