A Canada-based Nigerian man, Nnamdi Enunwa, has been arrested by police in Ontario for allegedly stabbing his roommate during a heated confrontation.
Enunwa, 38, was picked up after police officers responded to distress calls from residents around Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East in Oshawa.
A statement by the Central East Division Police said officers arrived at the address around 7:30pm and found both the suspect and the injured roommate inside the residence.
“The suspect was arrested and the victim was transported to a local-area hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident,” the division stated.
The roommate was treated for multiple stab wounds but is expected to survive.
The statement confirmed that Enunwa is facing several charges, including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for committing an offence.
He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
Police urged witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact Detective Baldini of the Criminal Investigations Branch, noting that the claims remain unproven until tested in court.
Anonymous tips may be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers, with a possibility of cash rewards.
The arrest comes weeks after another Nigerian student, Babatunde Afuwape, was charged with fatally stabbing an Indian student in a separate incident in Canada.
