A police officer was on Saturday killed when armed men raided a manufacturing firm and abducted a Chinese national in Ogunmakin, on the outskirts of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The attackers, believed to be kidnappers, stormed Aqua Triton Company along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in what police described as a coordinated assault.
Spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, ASP Olayinka Ayanlade, who confirmed the incident, said the officer died from injuries sustained while confronting the gunmen.
“There was an attack at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, where yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the facility in a commando-style operation,” he said.
Ayanlade noted that the police officer “tragically died while repelling the attack,” adding that some of the assailants were wounded as officers engaged them.
He added that the gunmen fled the scene with a Chinese expatriate, who has yet to be rescued.
Police authorities said investigations and a manhunt have commenced to track the kidnappers and secure the victim’s release
