There was confusion on Wednesday at the Bende Local Government Council Headquarters in Abia State after heaps of human faeces were reportedly discovered at the office complex of the council chairman, Uwabunkeonye Bassey.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the chairman, Chimezie Princewill Okezie, who raised the alarm in a statement, said the faeces were plastered around the political block that houses the executive chairman’s office.
Okezie described the development as disturbing, noting that the identity of those behind the act and their motive had yet to be established.
He, however, alleged that the incident was politically motivated, claiming it was carried out by opponents of the chairman who, according to him, could not match the administration’s achievements.
“Earlier today (Wednesday) at the Bende Local Government Council Headquarters, specifically within the political block that houses the office of the Executive Chairman, a disturbing scene was met.
“Heaps of human faeces were deliberately plastered at the entrances of the complex, an act clearly intended to provoke, insult, and desecrate a public institution,” he said.
The media aide further described the act as uncivilised and an affront to the dignity of the council, its workers and residents of the area.
He vowed that those responsible would be made to face the consequences, insisting that the matter would not be swept under the carpet.
“The general public is hereby assured that whoever is responsible, regardless of affiliation, will face the appropriate consequences.
Acts like this cannot and will not be swept under the carpet,” Okezie added.
