The Ondo State Police Command has rescued two persons abducted by gunmen in Akure, the state capital, and has intensified efforts to arrest the perpetrators.

The command said the incident occurred on Friday, January 24, 2026, at about 9:45am, when four men were reportedly attacked at a work site in the Eleyewo area of Akure.

The victims were identified as Adesola Emiloye (45), Jimoh Akinlolu (35), Ebenezer Oloro (43), and another individual whose identity has yet to be confirmed.

According to the police, the victims were ambushed by two armed men, prompting a distress call to the command’s control room.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said operatives of the command’s tactical teams were immediately deployed to the area.

He noted that the operation led to the rescue of two of the abducted persons and the recovery of their motorcycles, while the remaining two victims reportedly escaped into the bush.

The police spokesperson added that efforts were ongoing to locate the remaining victims and apprehend the suspects behind the attack.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for what he described as a swift and professional response, assuring residents that the state would not serve as a haven for criminals.

Lawal also praised the collaboration between the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state, saying it had strengthened crime prevention and improved public safety.

The command urged residents to continue providing credible information that would aid security agencies in preventing and tackling crime across the state.
