Operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service have retrieved the corpse of an unidentified middle-aged man from a river along the Osin/Laduba axis of Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was said to have been reported on Thursday afternoon by officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment, who alerted emergency responders after sighting the body floating in the water.

Confirming the development in a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the fire service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, disclosed that the distress call was received at about 2:42 p.m.

According to him, “On Thursday, February 12, 2026, at about 14:42hrs, the Kwara State Fire Service received a call from staff of the Ministry of Environment reporting that a lifeless body had been discovered in a river along the Osin/Laduba area.”

He explained that firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they recovered the body of a yet-to-be-identified man believed to be about 43 years old.

Adekunle added that the remains were subsequently handed over to officials of the Ministry of Environment for necessary procedures, while health personnel carried out fumigation of the corpse and the surrounding environment to prevent any potential public health risk.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the fire service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to be cautious around rivers and other water bodies, especially during the dry season when water levels can be deceptive.

He reiterated the agency’s resolve to safeguard lives and property, assuring that the service would continue to collaborate with relevant authorities in responding swiftly to emergencies across the state.

It would be recalled that on October 8, 2025, operatives of the state fire service also recovered the body of a man suspected to be mentally unstable from the Asa River along Emir’s Road in Ilorin.
