Anambra State Police Command has apprehended four more suspects in connection with the brutal murder of three Cameroonians in Nando community, Anambra East Local Government Area.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed yesterday that those arrested include Chukwuemeka Emmanuel (27), popularly called “Ugoebenajah” and alleged chief priest of a local shrine, alongside Nwabunne Bright (27), Chinecherem Chiama (21), and Michael Ekwunife (38).

Ikenga said police recovered a cache of weapons and other items from the suspects, including two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, assorted charms, expanded ammunition, 10 cartridges, and five 9mm rounds.

He explained that the operation took place on February 13, 2026, following confessions from two suspects previously detained.

Officers from the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed the shrine in Nando, where about 30 men were reportedly gathered. Upon sighting the police, the armed men opened fire.

“The operatives engaged the attackers in a gun duel. The primary suspect, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, a native of Oroma Etiti Anam, managed to flee with other gang members, sustaining gunshot wounds,” Ikenga said.

He added that one of the arrested suspects was injured during the confrontation and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The police spokesperson noted that the suspects are being interrogated, while efforts continue to track down the remaining fugitives.

Ikenga assured residents of the command’s dedication to their safety and called on the public to provide information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
