A Nigeria Immigration Service officer has been killed while another was abducted after suspected bandits raided an outpost in Balia community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The deceased has been identified as Umar Yusuf.
According to sources, the attackers, who came on motorcycles, stormed the outpost in broad daylight around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, overpowering the officers on duty and seizing two AK-47 rifles with ammunition.
The outpost is located along Babanna Road, near the Benin Republic border, an area increasingly targeted by criminal gangs.
A source said, “Babanna Road has long been a hotspot for banditry and terror attacks.
This latest assault underscores the persistent security challenges in the region.”
The road has witnessed similar deadly incidents in the past. In November 2025, bandits ambushed a convoy of the lawmaker representing Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency, Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, killing two soldiers and injuring several security operatives and civilians.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on Tuesday’s attack, but the local community has expressed growing concern over the escalating insecurity along the border corridor.
