Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has sacked the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, with immediate effect.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.
According to the statement, Sagagi has been directed to hand over the ministry’s affairs to the Director of Commerce pending further directives from the government.
The governor commended the former commissioner for his contributions during his time in office, noting his role in political mobilisation, religious engagement and support for small and medium-scale enterprises in the state.
He also wished Sagagi well in his future pursuits, reiterating his administration’s resolve to ensure effective governance and improved service delivery.
The statement added that the move was part of ongoing efforts by the administration to restructure key sectors for enhanced performance, sustainable growth and development in Kano State.
The development follows the recent removal of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening efficiency and discipline within the state civil service.
Musa was subsequently directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, who has since assumed office in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.
The shake-up comes amid political realignments in the state following Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Findings indicated that the development has sparked adjustments across the state’s political and administrative landscape, with several officials repositioning in line with the new party alignment.
