One of the three health workers abducted from a Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure, Ondo State, has narrated the harrowing experience she and her colleagues endured in the hands of their captors.

The victim, Omolabake Kayode, who spoke in Akure on Saturday, said the armed assailants invaded the government facility around 2am, arriving in a bus and forcefully taking her and two other health workers away while other staff members fled to safety.

She explained that the attackers stormed the premises, causing panic among workers on duty, some of whom attempted to hide but were eventually discovered, assaulted, and dispossessed of their mobile phones.

Kayode said the kidnappers subsequently drove them to a remote bush along the Akure-Ondo expressway, where they were subjected to further abuse.

According to her, the assailants forced them to disclose sensitive banking details and transferred funds from their accounts before stripping them of their clothing and abandoning them at the location.

She added that the victims were warned not to raise any alarm, as the attackers threatened to kill them if they disobeyed instructions.

Kayode said after the kidnappers left, she and her colleagues cautiously found their way out of the bush and trekked to a nearby correctional facility in Olokuta, where they reported the incident.

She noted that officials at the facility immediately alerted operatives of the state security outfit, Amotekun, who responded and facilitated their rescue.

Confirming the development, the Corps Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, said the three victims were rescued at about 4:30am on Saturday and were receiving medical attention at the corps’ health facility.

Adeleye also disclosed that operatives rescued a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son who were abducted on Friday evening at the Pelebe community along Oda Road in Akure, following a confrontation with the kidnappers.
