President Bola Tinubu has pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office to a special fund for members of the Armed Forces, including injured personnel and families of fallen soldiers, as he marked his 74th birthday.

The President disclosed that he had directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to open a dedicated account for the initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Tinubu said the fund was aimed at supporting military personnel wounded in active service as well as dependants of those who lost their lives in defence of the nation.

According to him, the gesture was in recognition of the sacrifices made by officers and men of the Armed Forces.

He said, “On this occasion of my 74th birthday, I honour the gallant men and women of our Armed Forces and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country.”

Tinubu further revealed that his personal earnings since taking office would serve as the seed funding for the scheme, noting that the intervention would complement existing welfare and insurance provisions for military personnel.

He also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector operators and other stakeholders to contribute towards the success of the initiative.

The President assured that details of the account would be made public in due course to encourage wider participation.

Emphasising the importance of the initiative, Tinubu said the country owed a duty to recognise and support those who risk their lives to maintain peace and security, as well as their families.

“This is not an act of charity but a responsibility we must uphold,” he added.
