Media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is working towards emerging as the sole candidate in the 2027 general elections.
As reported by Daly Post, Momodu made the claim while reacting to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw recognition of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark.
The development followed the electoral body’s interpretation of a recent judgment of the Court of Appeal.
In a post on his X handle, Momodu criticised the commission, describing it as a major impediment to Nigeria’s democratic progress.
He lamented that the country had continued to decline politically since the annulment of the June 12 1993 presidential election, widely believed to have been won by Moshood Abiola.
The media mogul also questioned the commission’s impartiality, citing what he described as its swift recognition of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party allegedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He further argued that despite internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress across several states, the electoral body had not taken similar actions against the ruling party.
Momodu alleged that ongoing political realignments, including defections of governors to the APC, suggested a broader strategy by the ruling party ahead of the next elections.
According to him, the ultimate objective is to produce a sole presidential candidate in 2027, drawing in parallels with the era of late military ruler, Sani Abacha, when a similar attempt was made.
He, however, expressed hope that judicial intervention could still address the situation, though he noted that such an outcome remained uncertain.
