A pregnant woman, Msendoo Iorlumun, has delivered a set of twin boys in a bush in Benue State after going into labour while trekking to a health facility.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, reportedly happened as the expectant mother was on her way from Jotar to Abaki Health Clinic in Mbangur in search of medical care.
An eyewitness, Baba Igba Igba, said the woman had embarked on the journey to the clinic when labour suddenly set in along the route.
According to him, the situation worsened as she became too weak to continue the trek, with the health facility still some distance away.
“She could not move further and had to stop along the way,” the source said.
The woman was eventually delivered of the twins near St. Pius Catholic Church in Abaki Mbangur without the presence of medical personnel.
Despite the challenging circumstances, both the mother and the newborns were said to be in stable condition, sparking relief among residents of the community.
The incident has once again brought to the fore the persistent challenge of limited access to healthcare in rural communities, where residents are often forced to travel long distances to access basic medical services.
The eyewitness expressed gratitude over the safe delivery, noting that the outcome could have been tragic.
Residents have since hailed the mother’s resilience, describing the development as both harrowing and miraculous while renewing calls for improved healthcare infrastructure in the area.
