Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have shot dead a suspected member of the Lakurawa bandit group and thwarted the rustling of 33 cows in Dandi Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred along the Kamba–Kangiwa road, where armed bandits were said to have invaded a farmhouse and driven away livestock before security forces intervened.
The attackers were reportedly confronted by a combined team of police personnel and soldiers from the Army’s Forward Operating Base in Kamba, prompting them to abandon the stolen animals and flee.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that one of the suspects was neutralised during the encounter, while another escaped with gunshot injuries.
He disclosed that the 33 rustled cows were recovered intact and handed back to their owner.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the statement added.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, praised the operatives for their swift response and coordinated effort in foiling the attack.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to strengthening security operations across vulnerable communities, with a view to curbing banditry and safeguarding lives and property in the state.
