Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have disrupted a suspected cult gathering in Akungba Akoko, leading to the arrest of five individuals.
The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation by the command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad following a tip-off from members of the public.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said, “Our officers acted promptly on credible intelligence, moved to the location, secured the area and successfully arrested the suspects.”
Those taken into custody were identified as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele and Akeju Idowu.
According to the police, initial investigations suggest that the suspects are linked to the Eiye confraternity, known for involvement in violent and unlawful activities.
Jimoh noted that the suspects were already assisting investigators with useful information as efforts continue to track down other members of the group.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, praised the swift response of the operatives and acknowledged the role of residents in providing timely information.
He also cautioned young people against engaging in cult-related activities, reiterating the command’s commitment to clamp down on criminal groups and prosecute offenders.
