Controversy has trailed popular Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa, following his public admission that he relies on traditional spiritual practices to enhance his success.
The revelation was made during a live performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of veteran Nollywood actor, Fatai Odua, held on March 30, 2026, where the singer made remarks that have since gone viral on social media.
In a widely circulated video, Osupa was seen urging his backup singers to adopt similar practices to improve their performance, suggesting that such measures could aid memory and coordination on stage.
He went further to state that his personal engagement with traditional spirituality was not harmful, insisting that it was solely aimed at personal advancement.
The Fuji star also disclosed that he had previously been advised to deny involvement in such practices but chose to remain open about it, maintaining that he had never used them for wrongdoing.
His comments have, however, triggered a wave of backlash, particularly among religious groups, with several Islamic clerics criticising the stance and distancing themselves from his claims.
Some of the clerics argued that attributing success to such practices undermines faith and could mislead followers who hold the musician in high regard.
In response to the criticism, Osupa defended his position, stressing that he holds respect for both Christianity and Islam, and has never spoken against their teachings.
He, however, faulted what he described as hypocrisy among some critics, accusing them of engaging in similar acts privately while condemning him publicly.
The development has sparked wider debate on the intersection of entertainment, personal beliefs and religious expectations, especially for public figures with large followings.
