Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress from the state, intensifying speculations over an imminent political switch.
The meeting, which comes against the backdrop of mounting reports that the governor may be considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, is seen as a significant step in the unfolding political recalibration ahead of future elections.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the engagement, one of the federal lawmakers, who declined to be named, said the session centred on ongoing political shifts both nationally and within Bauchi State.
He noted that the lawmakers honoured an invitation by the governor to deliberate on emerging alignments shaping the country’s political landscape, particularly developments within the state.
According to him, the meeting ended on a positive note, with indications that a formal position would soon be made public.
“We have had fruitful discussions with the governor on the current political developments and realignments. In due course, we will address the public and make our collective position known,” the lawmaker said.
The latest development comes amid reports that Mohammed has also opened talks with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress, fuelling speculation that he may be weighing multiple political options as permutations for the next election cycle gather momentum.
Observers say the governor’s engagements across party lines signal a strategic move that could reshape Bauchi’s political dynamics in the coming months.
