A suspected kidnapper, Alex Kehinde, has confessed to the killing of an 80-year-old man in Delta State, admitting that he and an accomplice murdered the victim before demanding and collecting a N2 million ransom from his son.
The chilling confession was disclosed in a video released by the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe.
Kehinde, who was arrested by operatives, told investigators that the victim had earlier engaged him for a renovation project at his property but was later targeted for abduction after his accomplice allegedly proposed the plan.
According to the suspect, the deceased was lured to the building on February 3, 2026, under the guise of inspecting a faulty pipe.
Police said the victim was subsequently overpowered at the site and restrained in a manner that led to his death.
Edafe explained that after the incident, the suspects carted away the victim’s mobile phone and motorcycle, selling the phone in the Ogbe-Ogonogo area of Asaba.
In a further twist, the police spokesman said the suspects removed the SIM card from the phone, inserted it into another device, and contacted the victim’s family, falsely claiming he had been kidnapped.
The suspects thereafter demanded and received a ransom of N2 million from the victim’s son, despite the victim already being dead.
The police described the incident as tragic and disturbing, noting that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to bringing all those involved in the crime to justice, as investigations continue.
