The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered an alleged attempt to secretly dispose of a corpse in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area, arresting three suspects, including two minors, in connection with the killing of a 38-year-old man, Stanley Okirie.
The suspect Maureen Okirie, 35, Salia Karikari, 15, and Jubril Karikari, 12 were apprehended after operatives of the Ajuwon Division acted on an intelligence report that led them to a suspected crime scene where a shallow grave had allegedly been prepared for a hurried burial.
According to the police, officers arrived at the location at about 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, and reportedly caught one of the suspects in the act of attempting to cover a blood-stained body with earth in what was believed to be an effort to conceal a homicide.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, indicated that preliminary findings pointed to a violent attack on the deceased, who was allegedly struck on the head with a wooden pestle. Investigators further alleged that the incident involved conspiracy among relatives of the victim to both commit and conceal the crime.
The suspected weapon was recovered from the scene, while the remains of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe for preservation and autopsy.
The suspects have since been taken into custody and are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further interrogation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killing, describing it as “cruel and deeply disturbing,” especially given the alleged involvement of close family members.
Ojajuni assured that the command would ensure a thorough investigation, stressing that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full weight of the law.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and support ongoing security efforts in their communities, while providing emergency contact lines for prompt reporting of crime.
