The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the postponement of its proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise, deferring the process until after the 2027 general elections.
The decision, disclosed on Friday, followed a high-level meeting between the commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners across the country.
In a statement, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the electoral body reached the resolution after extensive deliberations on the matter.
“Following deliberations, the commission resolved to postpone the exercise until after the 2027 General Election,” the statement read.
The development signals a shift in the commission’s electoral preparations ahead of the next general polls, with the revalidation exercise now expected to take place after the nationwide voting cycle.
