Tragedy struck on Sunday along the Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway in Osisioma, Abia State, after a truck reportedly lost control and rammed into a building fence, killing a man believed to be a returnee from abroad.

The incident, which occurred in the busy axis of Osisioma, also left two other persons injured in what eyewitnesses described as a terrifying crash that threw the area into confusion.

Residents said the victim had recently returned from an Asian country where he had been living before the unfortunate incident cut his life short.

It was gathered that the fully loaded truck was moving along the expressway when the driver suddenly lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into a fence adjoining a residential building.

In the process, the vehicle was said to have struck a commercial motorcyclist and two other men who were in the vicinity at the time of the crash.

One of the victims was confirmed dead on the spot, while the two others, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were rushed to hospital by operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Command.

The exact cause of the crash had yet to be ascertained as of press time, with authorities still awaiting a full investigation report to determine whether it resulted from brake failure, speeding, or other mechanical fault.

Confirming the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in Abia State, Ngozi Ezeoma, said three adult males were involved in the crash.

“Yes, the truck rammed into the fence and hit an Okada rider. Three male adults were involved and one died,” she said.

Meanwhile, traffic officials and emergency responders have continued to raise concerns over the rising rate of articulated vehicle crashes along major highways, calling for stricter enforcement of safety regulations.
