A 45-year-old man, Emereze Okoro, has been arrested by operatives of the Cross River State Police Command over the alleged killing of his elder brother in Igbo Imabana Village, Abi Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident was said to have occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, throwing the quiet rural community into shock and confusion.
It was gathered that the case was reported to the police in the early hours of April 11 by Egbe Enya, who alleged that his younger brother, Egbegi Enya, 45, was attacked and killed with a machete during a violent confrontation.
Confirming the development on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sunday Akata, said operatives of the Abi Division swiftly moved to the scene after receiving the report.
According to him, the officers conducted an on-the-spot assessment, took photographs of the scene, and evacuated the victim’s body to the Eja Memorial Joint Hospital Mortuary in Itigidi.
He added that the suspect was later apprehended and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further interrogation and prosecution.
“The command received a report of the incident, and our operatives immediately visited the scene.
The body was recovered and deposited at the mortuary for preservation,” the police spokesman said.
Akata further disclosed that investigations were ongoing, noting that efforts were being intensified to determine if other persons had any role in the killing.
Meanwhile, the command assured residents of its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in the area.
In a related development, police authorities have continued to record cases of violent killings across parts of the country, including a recent incident in Ogun State where suspects were arrested over the alleged murder and attempted secret burial of a 38-year-old man in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area.
In that case, the deceased was reportedly attacked with a pestle, with police intervening following intelligence-led operations.
