A wave of grief has swept through the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom following the sudden death of a Nigerian man identified as Herbert, who reportedly passed away on the same day his father was laid to rest in Nigeria.

The heartbreaking incident was confirmed by a UK-based community leader, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, who described the development as deeply distressing and called for support for the bereaved family.

In a statement, he said, “We have lost another brother in the Nigerian community here in the UK. Tragically, he died on the very same day his father was buried in Nigeria.”

Herbert, who was said to be based in Thornaby, UK, was described by acquaintances as a calm, family-oriented man and a devoted husband and father of three children. Reports indicate that he died in his sleep.

Sources within the community said he had been emotionally affected by the recent death of his father in Nigeria.

Although he was unable to travel for the burial, he was said to have contributed financially to ensure a dignified farewell for his late father.

Ironically, tragedy struck on the day the father was being interred in Nigeria, with Herbert passing away thousands of miles away.

In a further distressing development, his children were said to have discovered his lifeless body at home, while his wife was reportedly away at the time.

The double tragedy has left the family in a precarious situation, with the widow now solely responsible for the upbringing of their three young children as well as the financial burden of funeral arrangements and the possible repatriation of Herbert’s remains to Nigeria.

Meanwhile, members of the Nigerian community in the UK have begun fundraising efforts to support the family, appealing for public donations to ease the mounting financial strain.

Oluomo of Derby urged Nigerians and well-wishers to rally around the family in their moment of grief.

“No amount is too small. Your support, prayers, and kindness will go a long way. Let us stand with the family and show them they are not alone,” he said.
