The Nigeria Customs Service has recorded a milestone as its first female pilot, Nafisat Balogun, secured a commercial multi-engine pilot licence in the United States.

The development was disclosed on Sunday by the Service’s spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada, in a statement issued in Abuja.

He noted that the achievement marks a significant breakthrough in a male-dominated field within the Service.

Balogun, a Superintendent of Customs, was subsequently honoured at a ceremony organised by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the outfit, Kuhi Mbaya, described her journey as remarkable, noting that she rose from a cabin attendant to a certified commercial pilot.

He said the feat not only sets a precedent within the Service but also reflects expanding opportunities for personnel, particularly women.

Mbaya further commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for promoting inclusiveness and supporting professional growth.

In her response, Balogun expressed gratitude to the Service for its support, pledging continued dedication, professionalism, and commitment to duty.
