A tragic incident occurred on Monday at Ilara-Mokin Junction in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, as a woman identified as Oluwasola Victoria Adebayo reportedly collapsed and died while waiting for her child writing the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
It was gathered that the deceased had escorted her child to the examination centre and was seated nearby when she suddenly took ill shortly after arriving at the junction.
Eyewitnesses said she had complained of weakness before slumping, sparking panic among residents and other commuters in the area.
Sympathisers who rushed to her aid were unable to revive her, as she was confirmed dead at the spot.
Her child was said to be inside the examination hall at the time of the incident and was unaware of what had happened outside.
A resident who simply identified her as “Mommy Ayo” said she had earlier spoken about accompanying her daughter to the exam venue that morning.
The sudden death attracted a large crowd, with many expressing shock and grief over the development.
The cause of death had not been ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said it had contacted the family of the deceased.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the remains had been released to a family representative after due procedures were followed.
“The Command notes with concern the sudden death of a woman in Ilara-Mokin. The family has been contacted and the remains released to Mr Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son,” he said.
Jimoh added that the command commiserated with the family and urged members of the public to remain calm.
