ATIDELE: Momodu denies VP ambition with Atiku, throws weight behind opposition coalition

Media entrepreneur and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed speculations linking him to a possible vice-presidential bid alongside former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, declaring he has no intention of contesting any elective office.

Momodu, in a statement shared via his Facebook page on Thursday, described the viral claim as a distraction, urging his supporters and political associates to disregard it.

He said he initially treated the report as a joke, adding that he remained uninterested in returning to the ballot.

“I will be most grateful if my friends and party members can do me the honour of ignoring this joke,” he stated, insisting that he would not participate in any electoral race.

Instead, the publisher said his focus was on supporting a coalition of opposition parties aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Momodu noted that he would channel his efforts towards strengthening alliances within the African Democratic Congress, stressing that the party had capable figures who could vie for leadership positions.

He maintained that his priority was to contribute to coalition-building efforts, particularly as political actors intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The media figure also condemned what he described as persistent attacks on Atiku, pointing out that political alliances were not new, citing past collaborations involving other prominent figures.

He further cautioned against the use of abusive language in political discourse, urging stakeholders to embrace civility, including in criticisms directed at President Bola Tinubu.

Momodu reiterated his commitment to backing any candidate that emerges from his party, underscoring the need for unity among opposition groups seeking to present a formidable front in the next election cycle.
