Troops of Sector 2 under the Joint Task Force North-West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed three suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a patrol operation in Zamfara State.
The military disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted on May 7 across Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas as part of sustained offensives aimed at restricting the movement of armed groups terrorising communities in the state.
The troops were said to have engaged the terrorists in Doumbourum Village, where a fierce gun battle reportedly broke out.
The statement noted that the soldiers subdued the attackers with superior firepower, forcing the fleeing terrorists to abandon weapons and ammunition at the scene.
Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, a locally fabricated pistol, seven rifle magazines and 571 rounds of ammunition.
The military also confirmed that no soldier was injured or killed during the encounter.
It described the successful operation as another indication of the troops’ determination and professionalism in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry in the North-West.
The task force further appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely intelligence to strengthen ongoing operations across the region.
