Students of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi who were abducted by suspected gunmen have regained their freedom after spending several days in captivity.

The students were released following coordinated efforts involving security operatives and members of the community, according to authorities in Keffi on Tuesday.

Confirming the development, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, expressed gratitude over the safe return of the victims.

She disclosed that the students were receiving medical attention and psychological support after their ordeal.

“We are grateful to God that our students have been released safely.

They are currently undergoing medical checks and psychological support,” she said.

The Nasarawa State Police Command also confirmed the release of the students but withheld details of the operation.

“The students have been rescued. Further information will be provided as investigations continue,” the command stated.

One of the freed students, who spoke anonymously, described the experience as traumatic, saying the victims were uncertain about their survival while in captivity.

“We didn’t know if we would make it out. We are just grateful to be back home,” the student said.

Meanwhile, security authorities in the state assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend those behind the abduction and strengthen measures against future attacks.
