The newly posted Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, has officially assumed duty as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state, pledging to strengthen security and uphold professionalism in policing.
Ohagwu took over from the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, following his deployment by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce internal security operations across the country.
The Ondo State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the statement, the new police commissioner is an experienced officer with over three decades in service, having served in several operational, investigative and administrative positions across the country.
The command noted that Ohagwu distinguished himself throughout his career through discipline, professionalism and dedication to duty.
Speaking after assuming office, the police commissioner assured residents of Ondo State of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining the existing security structure in the state.
He said the command under his leadership would intensify efforts at combating criminal activities through intelligence-driven policing, proactive security strategies, community engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies.
Ohagwu also pledged to promote accountability, transparency and respect for human rights in the discharge of police duties.
He stressed that officers and men of the command would continue to operate in line with ethical standards and global best practices in policing.
“The command under my leadership will remain committed to professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights and quality service delivery,” he stated.
The commissioner expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in him and commended his predecessor, Adebowale Lawal, for his contributions towards maintaining peace and security in Ondo State.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information that would assist in crime prevention and public safety.
The command urged members of the public to report security-related matters through the commissioner’s official line and other designated communication channels provided by the police.
