A 46-year-old man, Olaniyi Fakeye, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, over allegations that he assaulted his former wife with a broken bottle.

The defendant was dragged before the court on a two-count charge bordering on assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Fakeye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecuting counsel, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the incident occurred on March 25 around 9:30 pm at the staff quarters of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Ayeni alleged that the defendant attacked his ex-wife, identified simply as Bosede, during an altercation and allegedly stabbed her in the shoulder with a broken bottle, causing serious injuries.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravened Sections 249 and 355 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The court president, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akintayo also directed the sureties to present valid means of identification as part of the bail conditions.

The matter was subsequently adjourned till June 11 for further hearing.
